How Do I Boot a Computer to WipeOS?

Instructions for booting a computer to WipeOS

First, make sure you have the WipeOS Appliance and Network set up.

For best results, it's recommended to boot from the Network.

  1. Connect the client (machine you want to wipe) to the WipeOS Appliance via Ethernet. If the machine does not have a built-in Ethernet port, see How do I Make a Bootable WipeOS USB Drive?
  2. Next, boot up the client and enable the PXE boot (or network boot) from the BIOS.
  3. Finally, reboot the machine.

The client will load WipeOS from the Appliance, as shown below;

The screen resolution may change, this is normal during the initialization of hardware.

You may see network unreachable errors and multiple DHCP requests. This is also normal as WipeOS needs to query each network interface to find the one that is plugged into the network.

Once WipeOS loads, you will see a WipeOS login screen. Login in with the default user credentials, "admin" for both username and password, or with your credentials (set in the Operator section of the portal. See related FAQ: How do I add a new Technician/Operator?)
