Some machines may have RAID cards which are notoriously slow, for various reasons.
The most common offender are the PERC variants:
- PERC 5/E, 5/I , 6/E, 6/I
- S100, S110, S130, S300
- H200, H310, H330, H345
- H700, H710, H470p, H730, H730p, H740p, H745, T745p MX, H755, H755N
- H800, H810, H820, H840,
- E208, P408, P816, P204, P408, P416, P204
- P420, H420, P440
To see if any machines you are using for a wiping rig has one of these cards, click on the blue Information button on the right hand side:
Once you scroll down, you will see the Storage Controllers section. In this section you will see either 'PERC' or one of the card types listed above:
If you want to have a machine with a PERC card as part of your permanent wiping rig, we would suggest upgrading to a card which has been flashed to IT mode, which is hardware JBOD (Just a bunch of disks). This seller on ebay sells cards flashed to IT mode. To find out which card to buy, please look inside the server to see the connector from the backplane (where the drives are plugged in) to the card.
