Using WipeOS in Offline Mode
To confirm that the appliance is offline, the user can refer to the Internet-connected indicator from the appliance view. This is done by connecting a monitor, keyboard, and mouse to the appliance directly.
When this indicator is red and says: Internet Connected: NO, the appliance is not connected ot the internet.
Using WipeOS in Offline Mode
WipeOS can operate fully in offline environments when an internet connection is unavailable or intentionally disconnected. Follow the steps below to ensure optimal performance and proper data syncing.
1. Preparing for Offline Use
- Ensure your WipeOS appliance is fully set up and licensed while connected to the internet.
- Complete any initial updates and device syncing.
- Confirm that all expected wipe profiles and imaging templates are already loaded on the appliance.
2. Entering Offline Mode
- Disconnect the WAN (Internet) connection from the appliance. This can be done by unplugging the network cable or disabling internet access via your network settings.
- Proceed to boot and manage devices using PXE or USB as usual.
- All actions (wipes, diagnostics, inventory, etc.) will be logged locally on the appliance.
3. Operating in Offline Mode
- The appliance will function normally: wiping, testing, imaging, and generating reports.
- Certificates of Destruction and logs will be saved locally and can be exported via USB if needed.
4. Syncing Back Online (Recommended Monthly)
- At least once a month, reconnect the appliance to the internet.
- The appliance will:
- Sync all offline activity to the WipeOS portal.
- Receive software updates, feature enhancements, and license checks.
- Sync all offline activity to the WipeOS portal.
- Once synced, you may disconnect the WAN again to continue offline use.
Important Reminders
- Certificates and activity logs are not visible in the portal until the appliance syncs online.
- Support and diagnostics are easier with periodic syncing.
- Extended offline use without syncing may result in missing critical updates or new features.
