What is the wiping speed of WipeOS?
Variables of Wiping Speed
The time that a wipe takes is based on many variables: The type of the drive, the RPM if its a spinning disk, the bus speed, the integrity of the cabling, the backplane, the RAID card or southbridge, the wipe method, the power supply, the CPU, RAM speed, etc. For the table below, the wipe method was NIST SP 800-88r1 Clear (1-pass) with Verify(10%), and the hardware used was as follows:
Dell Precision T3610
Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-1620 v2 @ 3.70GHz
8GB DDR3
PERC H200
Size | Bus | Speed | Rotation Rate | Time |
146GB | SAS3 HDD | 12Gb/s | 10K RPM | 26 Minutes 15 Seconds |
600GB | SAS 3 HDD | 12Gb/s | 15K RPM | 1 Hour 6 Minutes 18 Seconds |
320GB | SATA 2.6 HDD | 3Gb/s | 7.2K RPM | 1 Hour 6 Minutes 53 Seconds |
128GB | SATA 3 SSD | 6Gb/s | N/A | 15 Minutes 38 Seconds |
256GB | NVMe x4 SSD | 20Gb/s | N/A | 28 Minutes 34 Seconds |
800GB | NVMe x16 SSD | 80Gb/s | N/A | 42 Minutes 13 Seconds |
